Greet Packs

What you need to know about one of GreetBot’s most fun features.

GreetBot comes with several built-in channel message bundles called Greet Packs. The idea is simple: you pick a Greet Pack and each time someone joins a specified channel GreetBot welcomes them with a random message from that bundle.

As such, Greet Packs give you the ability to greet new joiners with a different message each time. They help you draw the attention of existing team members to each new joiner in a playful way, making the onboarding experience more fun and engaging.

You can use GreetBot’s Greet Packs to have some fun with your team.

Configuration

To greet new joiners with a Greet Pack follow these steps:

1. Sign in with Slack at greet.bot/account.
2. From your Dashboard go to Message Schedule.
3. Select “Add channel message” or click on “Edit” under an existing channel message.
4. Under Greeting Type and select “Greet Pack.”
5. Select the Greet Pack that you want to use.
6. Click on “Save message” to apply changes.

Currently you can choose from the following Greet Packs:

• Howdy — animated GIFs of people waving hello.
• Happy — animated GIFs of people getting excited.
• Dancer — animated GIFs of people dancing.
• Woofy — animated GIFs of excited puppies.
• Buddy — animated GIFs of animal friendships.
• Kitty — animated GIFs of cute cats.
• Hollywood — quotes from cinema classics.
• Rockstar — lyrics from hit songs.
• Globetrotter — greetings from around the world.
• Winnie — quotes from Winnie the Pooh.
• Mixer — a mix of greetings from all Greet Packs.

Making a choice

If you are into pop culture, you can go with the Hollywood pack and have GreetBot quote from various cinema classics, like “May the Force be with you,” or “Live long and prosper.” Alternatively, you can select the Rockstar pack to use lyrics from hit songs, like “Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy.”

You can also choose a Greet Pack that uses animated GIFs. For example, Howdy, comes loaded with GIFs of pop culture icons waving hello in all sorts of goofy ways, while Woofy comes with GIFs of adorable puppies running, rolling and shaking in excitement.

If you prefer something less flashy, though, you can use the Globetrotter pack and greet new joiners in different languages, like “Annyeong” in Korean or “Bonjour” in French. Or, you can go with Winnie and use charming quotes from Winnie the Pooh, for example “As soon as I saw you, I knew an adventure was going to happen.”

Finally, if you are undecided you can select the Mixer pack and use greetings from all available Greet Packs at random. Mixer is a great way to inject an element of spontaneity into your onboarding process. You never know what’s coming and it can spark a lot of fun conversations.
