Welcome Themes

Everything you need to know about one of GreetBot’s most fun features.

In addition to posting your own, custom #channel messages you can also select from GreetBot’s built-in message packs — Welcome Themes. The idea is simple: you pick a theme and each time someone joins a designated #channel GreetBot welcomes them with a line from that message pack.

As such Welcome Themes give you the ability to greet new joiners with a different message each time. They help you draw the attention of existing team members to each new joiner in a simple yet playful way, making the onboarding experience more fun and engaging for everyone involved.

You can also choose Welcome Themes with animated GIFs. Howdy, comes with GIFs of pop culture icons waving hello in all sorts of goofy ways, and Woofy comes packed with GIFs of adorable puppies running, rolling and shaking in excitement.

Okay! Now pick a welcome theme that you would like to use in #general. You can type:

Hollywood — to use quotes from cinema classics
Rockstar — to use lyrics from hit songs
Howdy — animated GIFs of people saying hello
Woofy — animated GIFs of excited puppies
Winnie — to use quotes from Winnie the Pooh
Globetrotter — to use greetings from around the world
Mixer — to use a mix of greetings from all themes
Custom — to write your own welcome message

Tip: Themes help you to create a simple and fun onboarding experience 🤹 Use the custom option if you’d like to get creative 😃

You can use GreetBot’s Welcome Themes to have some fun with your team.

To set up a Welcome Theme type channel in chat with GreetBot and follow the instructions. After you specify which #channel you would like to use you will be able to select your Welcome Theme. If you are undecided you can pick the theme called Mixer to use greetings from all available themes at random. Mixer is a great way to inject an element of surprise and spontaneity into your onboarding process. You never know what’s coming and it can spark a lot of fun conversations.
